The European Union (“EU”) designates key infrastructure projects as Projects of Common Interest (“PCI”) every two years. PCIs are deemed priority projects for their cross-border contribution to market integration, increased energy supply security, increased market competition, and achievement of the EU climate goals. Norne achieves these objectives by enabling the reduction of significant CO2 emissions in the EU and providing a cost-effective decarbonization opportunity for European industry to remain competitive. CEF supports the development of high-quality and sustainable infrastructure in transport, energy and digital services across member states through grants and other financial support. CO2 storage is an efficient and impactful method to significantly reduce emissions of industrial companies that emit large amounts of CO2, but most importantly, it is safe, permanent, and proven. The technology throughout the entire value chain of CCS has been used for decades.<\/p>

With the climate targets set by Europe to reduce emissions by 2030 and 2050, CCS is a key component in achieving these targets. This is due to CCS\u2019 ability to be applied directly to industries that have hard to abate CO2 emissions.<\/p>

In addition, CCS is the only option for Denmark and the EU to go carbon neutral or even negative.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Norne will safely receive, transport, and store CO2 for permanent storage in geological reservoirs deep below the surface. Onshore storage has been practiced safely for decades and will utilize Denmark’s natural subsurface characteristics that are excellent for safely and permanently storing CO2. After the CO2 has been put into the reservoirs, the CO2 will slowly mineralize and become a natural part of the subsoil over time.
